They already have spice in Star Wars Galaxies that can cause your stats to drop. Sometimes it can even incapacitate you for a time. They can also drop in the middle of a battle if you aren’t careful so yeah the Mos Eisley thing can kinda happen already. :) People used to pay a high in game cost for crates of spice and literally couldn’t fight anything without getting their spice buff first. Now foods and Doctor Buffs are the norm and Spice has gone to the wayside a bit. I guess it would kinda be like legalizing drugs in the real world. Players can go to doctors for their fix instead of going to the smugglers and taking the chance of getting caught with it by roaming imperial patrols in the big cities.

So the “Doctor Buffs” are sort of like Spice, but safer and legal? I wonder if they added that to appease players who didn’t like the ‘demon Spice’ aspect of the game.

Well they always had the Doctors buffs. At the beginning of the game it was much harder to find good buffs though as the Doctors had to advance through the medic class to get there so it took them a while. Now that most people have friends online or in a guiild it’s pretty common to find doctors around and you can spend about 6k creds to get buffs in all the stats. Spice, before the introduction of enhanced food, was the main way to enhance your mind pool, the only problem with it was that your mind drops way down on the downer and you puke quite a bit. This can be catastrophic in the middle of a battle. The other alternative is to get a mind buff from a master dancer, but you have to sit and watch the dancer for upwards of 10 minutes to get a good buff and it will only last about an hour. The perks for having spice and food is you can use them on your own at any time as long as you aren’t “full”. It’s really a pretty complex system when you think about it. The game has suprising depths, but still comes across pretty simple when playing it.
